Mamaltar Dolmen of Vale de Fachas.
Discovered by José Coelho on December 21, 1911, near the Loba River, just 7 km east of the city of Viseu, this dolmen is the only megalithic monument classified as a National Monument in this municipality.
José Coelho began his work on January 15, 1912, based on the results obtained in his undergraduate thesis, which he published that same year: “Prehistory and its teaching. Mamaltar of Vale das Fachas”.
The discoveries made are of great importance for the study of regional Megalithism, especially a rare painted idol, which was originally suspended from the neck of a deceased person.
